The movie Under the Same Moon was actually a really good first movie to help adjust us to what we should expect in this class. The movie was full of Mexican culture which helped me gain a greater understanding of the culture. In the beginning I wasn't sure about reading subtitles throughout the entire movie however as the movie went on I realized that this only helped enhance the culture even further. When the movie began I could not, as a mother of 4, understand how a mother could leave her child for four years without any contact except for one phone call per week. When you understand the way of life that the people of this culture has adjusted to it's very sad to see just how imprisoned they are to their country and ways of life. It was very interesting to see just how grateful the people of this culture are just to have work. They do not care what type of work it is or the what conditions they will work under just as long as they have work to feed their families and gain freedom by being able to move to America. I also was very impressed with how loyal they were to one another such as in the way that Enrique ended up being caught just so Carlito could find his mother and not get caught by the police and have to be deported back to Mexico. I feel that ultimately that movie showed just how loyal the Mexican culture can be.
