This was a very strange movie. The women were in this film were very emotional and over reactive. The men seemed to very free in the sense that when they were done with one woman they just moved right on to the next. The relationships in this movie were very odd. I feel that there is infidelity regardless of the culture. There are crazy people in all cultures.
The feelings in this movie were very over reactive. The characters seemed very dramatic and they overly exaggerated their parts in the film. This movie was supposed to be a comedy however it was entirely too odd to be a comedy. The behaviors of the characters are seemed bizarre, it was very hard to follow what was going on and who was sleeping with who.
Personally, I feel that these women in this film were very different today's American woman. The women seemed to be very dependent on the men that they were in a relationship with (at the time anyway, because the relationships didn't last long). There are women in every culture that are thoroughly dependent on men, however American women do not seem to be as dependent on men as these women were. These women seem to be very trusting with their men and then completely devastated when they just walked away. In every culture you can see these behaviors, however this film overly exaggerated the drama between all of the different relationships. The language in this film would be probably be the same regardless of the culture when women are scorned by a man.
I think that if this film was from the US the comedy would have been alot more visible and the women may not have been as dependent on the men emotionally. The film was supposed to be a comedy however, in my opinion, I just feel that it fell very short of being anything close to funny. The funniest part was when the woman put her sleeping pills in the gazpacho and all the characters drank it at the end of the movie, including 2 cops and the cable guy. If that was in an American film the women would have been arrested for drugging people. I think this film was just very odd and it is definitely not a movie that I would want to have to watch again.

I agree I think this was a very hard movie to get into. Everything was over exaggerated I realize that this was for the comedic effect but it didn't work, for me anyway. The bizarre behavior by the women was ridiculous, from pepa putting barbituates in the soup/drink to pepas friend Candella jumping off Pepas balcony. Some women today still need a man to feel complete. In the film Ivan was allowed to come and go as he pleased with no repercussions. He shared very little of his life with Pepa, she didn't even know he had a son. The Spanish women in the film were very passionate about everything they did while the men seemed more laid back. The men jumped from one woman to the next while the women seemed to stay with the same man as long as they would have them. There are women in every culture who behave this way over a man. From revenge to stalking to murder women can be crazy. You know what they say Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned! Lisa Gallagher
ReplyDeleteGreat input from Lisa, I also think it was a very hard movie to get into, I think the idea of portraying women as weak characters is no longer a good theme for a film.
